OUR HISTORY

In 2014, our founder, Dr. Norman L. Baker, relocated back to his hometown of Pensacola, Florida, after being on assignment in Dallas, Texas. Without a job, a building, or a team, he and his wife, First Lady Ysterria Baker, listened to the voice of God and set out on a mission to aid and feed the homeless. Pastor Baker began purchasing dinners from the ACTS Center and distributing them to the homeless at the old K-Mart building on Mobile Highway. From there, a donated grill came into play, and the meals expanded to include hot dogs and hamburgers.

As the need for our ministry grew, help was solicited from local church members, family, and friends. Through God’s provision, along with donations and volunteers, we were able to feed more than 100 people on Saturdays. The ministry continued even as Pastor Baker assumed the role of Senior Pastor at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church in Pensacola, Florida.

On Sunday, May 29, 2022, Pastor Baker obeyed the voice of God to launch our church, Project Ministries Worship Center, at a temporary location on Sawyer Street in the Lincoln Park community. The launch included a full praise team, several members, and visiting guests. On that day, Pastor Baker reminded the congregation of the vision for PMWC. We began holding worship services every Sunday and Bible study online via Zoom. Together, we cleaned the building and grounds, decorated, and made improvements wherever needed. We also installed three television monitors and a camera to stream our services online. We are thankful that God kept His hand on our ministry as we strived for excellence, trusting that this was just the beginning and standing on God’s promises.

On June 4, 2024, God blessed us with our current location on Pensacola Boulevard, a building that includes two rooms for daycare and Children’s Church, as well as a full kitchen. On January 13, 2025, we launched our Project Hope program, through which we feed the homeless community Monday through Thursday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and provide a clothing closet serving up to 100 people per week.

With a growing congregation, we believe that God has much more in store for Project Ministries Worship Center, for we are a people with a mind to work.
